Hi everyone:
Here is my issue...my MS Outlook 2000 is hanging at startup. It launches, and then I get the title screen (the rectangular microsoft title screen that comes up before any office application.) and then it stops responding. I tried re-installing Office, and it still happens. I am using WIN 98, on a Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop. The only thing I can think of is to perhaps remove everything from my startup in msconfig and try rebooting, and launching Outlook, if it launches then put some stuff back into my startup and see what happens. Failing that....does anyone have any other ideas? Ever heard of this? Could it be a profile problem? Could it be that I had just uninstalled/removed McAfee Virus Scan before I noticed this problme (ie: perhaps some files were dmamaged or deleted during that uninstall that is affecting Outlook?) I am just about out of ideas.........
Cheers!

Do you use Outlook with Exchange server or only for your Internet Mail?
In any way you might have to reconfigure your Outlook profile. Depending on the type of configuration ( Exchange or POP3), you will have to follow different procedures. Please provide info.

In answer to question 1: No I am simply using it for internet mail...as my PIM and linking with my Palm V. How does one change their Outlook profile if it won't even open???
To the net reply: No when I ctrl alt del it shows outlook as "not repsonding" so I end the task, and try again same thing, so I reboot and same thing...still hanging....
Thanks guys...any help is appreciated...

so, the program seems to be corrupt. try running the office detect and repair. this can be run from any office application. just go help-detect & repair
if this doesn't help, try running the inbox repair tool located in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\95\Scanpst.exe

While you are there try to download updates for MS Outlook from Microsoft Windows Updates website. Ther you might find a patch or two for your problems.
Open IE, go Tools, Windows Updates. When get connected to the Website select Product updates on youe left. The engine will scan your configuration and give you recommended updates. Installation Office CD is required for those updates to be installed on the system.

Forgot.
To modify the profile for Outlook, simply right click the icon on desktop and select properties.
Keep us posted.

Everytime I come across I do exactly what "Homer" recommended and that always fixes it. It usually occurs when the PST/Personal Folders file exceeds 200mb plus.

Hey guys! Thanks for all your help yesterday. I went through a bunch of the options you suggested and some from a newsgroup on Microsoft's Support Page...and found the issue was a corrupted views file. Since I didnt have any customized toolbars anyway, I ran outlook.exe /safe and it opened, sooooo I closed Outlook, found the file outcmd.dat and renamed it to outcmd.old and restarted Outlook and it works fine.
So that was the resolution of that issue!
Thanks for all your help guys/gals! Cheers!
