DirectX 9

I know that DirectX 8.1 hasn't been out all that long, but has anyone heard if a newer version of directX is due out or not?
I was just kind of wondering.

We'll probably see it at the end on the summer, early fall. The ATI R300 should support it.

Does anyone know when we'll see the first BETA's of DX 9? TIA.
