What is the deal with all this PC2100+ RAM?
On what machines do these things run?
Anyway, can anyone convince me that going for PC2400 or higher RAM is worth it in a new machine?
Respectfully,

Unless you are overclocking the FSB or have a 333MHz chipset Athlon/P4 board, there is no point in using anything other than PC2100. Also, there is no "official" PC2400/2700/3200, it's all just "guaranteed" overclocked modules.
Increased speed of RAM certainly is worth it.
An increase in RAM clock speed has almost the same difference as an increase in CPU speed. As an example, taking a 1.8GHz with PC2100 to PC2700 is about ish the same as upgrading the CPU to 2.4Ghz.

Hi fred,
I don't OC much, and what you say is problably true for someone who can OC properly. But, on every review I've read with the 333 chipset and comparisons to pc2100 and (the "not-ready-for-prime-time) pc2700 show a different story.
From what I've read, using the same test bed but just swapping memory, the performance gain is from -3% to +5% depending on which benchmark is run.
I'm sure that when "true" CAS 2 pc2700 is benchmarked there will be a better performance difference.

The Dr. is right.
if you dont plan on overclocking and your mobo doesn't support PC-2700/DDR333 "which is now a standard from what I understand...as of like last week" you dont need the stuff.
Having said that, there is a 25% increase in bandwidth over 2100. If you can notice it or not I cant say, but what I can say is that any increase in memory bandwidth is better. some KT266a board may exceed the KT333 is some areas, but their is a increase in system performance when using DDR333.
