I am running a system with an Asus A7V266-E mobo. I ran into a problem trying to use the 3rd PCI slot. If I have my DVD player's audio cable connected to the mobo's aux internal audio connector, I can't use this slot.

Now I actually have two questions (please keep in mind this is my first build, and I know next to nothing about what I'm doing here). ;)

1- Does my DVD player actually need to use this aux internal audio connector since the mobo comes with onboard sound? If not what are these internal audio connectors for?

2- If I do need to use this audio connector for something, how do I use the PCI slot if the connector's in the way?

Thanks for any and all answers!

Yes, most times you do need the audio cable if you plan to play music cd's or dvd's from your drive. Some say that the ribbon cable is supposed to do this and an audio cable just gives better clarity of sound. But when I have tried to go without an audio cable I haven't been able to get sound from a cd.

i'm rather surprised that the audio connection is in the way of the pci slot. Can you try to either put the audio cord in first and then the pci card or vice verso? It appears from a picture of the board I just went and looked at that the connector is just slightly below the pci slot. It might be a tight fit but if it will go there then it will be fine.

If all else fails you may be able to pull off the white plastic part of the plug-in off the board leaving just the pins. Then attach the audio cable and very gently bend it slightly down enough out of the way.

The audio connector is just SLIGHTLY below the card when something's in the PCI slot. Whatever is on the bottom of the card hits the connector (at least with the 4 cards I have in there now (graphics, modem, network, and scsi). I don't need the slot right now, but may need it in the future. I had also considered what you suggested, with bending the tabs, and I may have to do this later.
Thanks for replying!
