Hi I just got a GeForce2 Gts video card. Before i got this I only had a onboard video card. Do I have to disable the onboard vid card before i install the GeForce? If I do hove to disable it, How? If it helps i have a Soyo 7 ISA plus motherboard. Also I bought the vid card for $10 at a mwave parkinglot sale. how can i test if it is good? I live like 45 min from mwave so i can take it back if needed.

Look in the motherboard documentation on how to disable the onboard graphics. There may be a manual online at soyo if you do not have one. There is probably a option in bios to disable it and/or a jumper onboard that will do it. These may need to both be done to disable it, I am not sure. Have fun!
Nice purchase by the way!

OK, I think I found the onboard video disable in the Soyo manual on the setup CD:
Under "Chipset Features Setup" in the bios there's a field called, "Use VGA BIOS in VBU bootblock".
The instruction manual description reads: "if you do not make use of the onboard VGA function you can set this item to disabled, this way the VGA BIOS will not be copied into the bootblock".
This should disable the onboard video right?
Also, were's the best site to download the drivers for that card?

You can use the most recent nvid drivers but you will probably get better performance using an older version. I hear the 27.xx series is good for the gf2 stylies. Ask around on a 3d site for a better response.

I tried disabling the onboard vid card and installing the GeForce and did everything the manual said. But when i plug the monitor into the geforce and start the comp I get no video.

Hi BassMaster4000,
Did you set video to Standard VGA first?

Ok yes i got it working now. But when I loaded the drivers the computer just keeps restarting. Are there certain drivers i need. I went to Nvidia's homepage and i downloaded the drivers for my OS (98) but it still did the same thing.

I found these drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=windows9x and was wondering if these drivers are a complete set of drivers for the G-force 2, or are they an “upgrade” to the original drivers? In other words are these “stand alone” drivers?

You may try looking at 3dguru and see if their driver section has some suitable for the gf2 class cards. Did the card come with any driver at all? I will say that I had very bad luck with any driver but the one that came in the box for my gf2ti (on XP) and the exact opposite with my gf3, go figure. The gf3 thrives on the latest and greatest driver from nvidia, most stable this system has been.
Have fun!

I think the card is bad. I went to Aopen's site and downloaded the drivers for that exact model card (geforce2 GTS PRO PA256 Deluxe II). Same problem, Windows restarts right after the splash screen.
It works with the Windows standard VGA driver, but the minute you load the nvidia drivers, Windows just keeps restarting.

Fancy asking Aopen if this is a known problem?
