I, like many here use Ad Aware. Ran it today and found nothing (spyware entries). Got the latest reference update and found a total of 758 entries on 3 pc's. One had 309.

After I updated the sig files, I found 500 entries on two computers. That darn spyware; it seems to be breeding at a rapid pace.

Are those references to cookies and/or internet cache or references to programs installed? That # of spyware components is mindboggling.

Statica, I started writing some of 'em down but gave up. I always delete the cookies anyway when exiting the Net so doubtful if that was any. DL's only had 197 entries for Alexis, or whatever IE 6 puts on it (no biggie I hear). Why the new reference update listed 197 when the "older" reference just 10 minutes prior found nothing, beats me. The other 2 pc's get used alot for downloads (music, etc.) so no surprise there.

Needless to say, I was stunned.

I run AdAware at least once a week, my wife seems to collect spyware ! After getting the latest upgrade I had 135 entries,I ran the previous version that AM and it found none. They (LavaSoft) must have added alot to the list this time.

Just ran it and came up clean. Just to note, It counts ad cookies as spyware as well, so my guess is that people are finding so many because they havn't cleared out their temp internet folders and there are hundreds of ad banner cookies in there.

Maybe for some folks, but I always empty cache, cookies and history from browser, then use Spider for any leftovers, on all 3 pc's. I do this after every session and before running Ad Aware.

hey, I have 5.62 so I can't use the refupdate 2.0 because it only supports from 5.8 and up. Will I have to download 5.8 and then uninstall 5.62? Thanks

I uninstalled the previous version, just to be safe then installed 5.8.
I just like to do things that way

yea, that's what i had to do. and it installs it into a different directory than the old one, so you'll have two different adaware's running on the same machine.

Yes, I have found through experience that it is best to uninstall this particular program first before installing the update.
