Hey everybody,

I am trying to play Gangsters 2 and when I try to start the game I get an error message saying:

Sorry: Unable to start game. Cannot access the direct draw driver

I am using DirectX 8.1 on OS Windows 98.

I know I probably have to upgrade my drivers so my "questions" are what video and audio drivers do I need to download that are compatiable with DirectX 8.1?

Here is some info about my video and audio cards:

Display Adapter: S3 Trio64V2-DX/GX(775/785)
Version:4.10.1715

Sound Card: ES1887 Plug and Play Audio Drive (WDM)
Version: 4.10.2222

All help is appreciated Thanks!!

P.S All ready tried S3's website and when I go there i get really confused as to what driver to download.

Hi Sysop, welcome to the PC Mech forums!

This is the latest driver version for your card:

https://ranger.s3graphics.com/775drv/w9524107.zip

Login and password is archive. Give them a try and see if it fixes the problem.

I don't know the S3 cards, but I believe the Trio64V2 is an old 1MB or 2MB PCI card, so most games will probably run very slow. An upgrade to a GeForce2 GTS-V ($47) would help a whole lot.

Hey Doc (or anybody else trhat could help me),

Oh Yea I know the thing is this isnt my computer Im just using it for the time Im here lol and as of right now I don't think the guy wants to upgrade it.

Also, I installed all the new drivers for video and sound, then installed DirectX 8.1 but I still get that error message that I posted above when I start Gangsters 2. Any suggestions as to what step I should take next.

I played Gangsters 1 on this computer and it runs soomthly no problems at all.
