Here's my dilemma, hope I can get some thoughtful responses here, since the kids on the gaming site boards need hooked on phonics and an attitude adjustment...badly...
For the life of me I can't get used to keyboard/mouse navigation in UT. I've been going along with keyboard only to this point, and against good players generally end up with 2 kills to their three or four, but that's just out of sheer sneakiness and knowing the maps. Problem is I've played MUDs for years, all with number pad navigation. I can do the mouse looking, but can't move with left hand. The obvious response is "try it, you'll get used to it", but I have for about a week now, and all I get is more ****ed off http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/wink.gif.
Anyone use a joystick or gamepad for FPS's?
I've looked at several, the best bet seems to be the Panther XL joystick/trackball combo, but I never really cared for trackballs much either, from a mouse standpoint. Another thing I was looking at is a Playstation/USB adapter that'd allow a playstation controller to work on a PC, which might work with the two joysticks. Yet another would be the Gravis Xterminator pad, which has tons of stuff, but I've been told unofficially that it might not allow you to use the analog stick and the digital pad simultaneously.
Any other help/info on these or other solutions from those who've tried em is appreciated.
