Recently formatted my hard drive, loaded Win98, but... every time I click on an icon to executive anything it keeps searching for the floppy disk drive...then it executives what I want. This is really a problem because it keeps looking for a floppy disk all the time. Thanks.

Hmmmmmm, Well what drive letter is your hd and what drive letter is your floppy? It could be that your shortcuts aren't configured correctly. How is it searching for the floppy? Does the light go on? On what programs? All of them? Need a little more info.

The hard drive letter is C. The floppy disk drive is A. It is searching the floppy by lighting up & searching for a floppy disk (sound). It does it on all the programs. Thanks.

Hi again,

Right click on one of your shortcuts on the desktop to properties and under target what drive letter does it say?

Here are some things I found in my book "Windows Annoyances for 98" under the title "Windows Randomly Searches Floppy Drive".
1. Select Settings-Taskbar-Start Menu Programs and click "Clear".
2. Clear history of Run by using Tweakui-Choose Paranoia tab-Check "Clear Run History at logon" and then click "Clear Selected Items Now."
3. Search hard disk for all Dos and Windows shortcuts that point to a floppy drive. Find-Files or Folders, type *.1nk, *.pif in the Named field, type a: in the Containing text field and click find now.
4. Search hard disk for all files with the configuration file extension *.ini that contain the text a:.
5. Search your entire registry for a:
I had the same problem and did the above. Now, I only experience this when opening a directory in WP8. Don't know about that yet but the other is fixed. Sorry for the long post.
