I`m trying to enable connection between a win98pc and win2000 pc but it doesnt work! how do i enable it correctly? pls tell me step by step !

if you are using a serial connection, you cant use a straight through serial cable. you need a null modem cable, or a regular serial cable with a null modem adapter.

The help system in Windows 2000 is pretty good for direct cable connection. The only thing I noted that may be causing you problems (other than the need for a properly wired null modem cable) is you have to be logged in as an administrator. It's easiest if both machines are members of the same workgroup and file and print sharing should be enabled on both.

im thinking of buying network to connect my two pc for gaming.it doesnt have to be powerful or too fast(just as long the card is PCI).i need the specific name of model and brand ! pls help me,im too fed up with confusing information other people keep giving me

Your beeter off installing a nic card in each of the computers then connect the both via a crossover cable.

I agree with Highrise. Get a NIC for each PC (about $30.00 total) and a crossover CAT5 ethernet cable to connect the NIC's.

Another option is a NIC for each PC and a 4 port hub and two straight thru CAT5 ethernet cables to connect to hub.

Another option is to get a 4 port router (about $70.00) rather than a hub. Advantage would be that both PC's could access the internet in addition to accessing each other.

All three options allow the PC's to communicate with each other, but the router option allows both to use the net and offers firewall security.

If cost is the driving issue, then the null modem serial cable would probably be the cheapest.

I 2nd that. Highrise way is definetly the easiest. Once you do that it's up to you. Crossover cable or just a hub and some cat 5 cables.

Sorry, I forgot to mention in my previous post is that you need a null cable.
