I'm i going crazy??

I have 3 different phone line in my house,one of them is down. The down number has 3 phone plug in to .Here is where i get crazy.I can hear someone speaking in another room using my cordless phone that is connect to line 1 that's down.How is that possible?All the phones are off???

edit:number of lines.The 3rd line only has fax on it.I checked and the speaker is not on,and the fax machine works.

well found the cause,it was pluged bad.Except interesting part i have 3 different plugs so one should have worked.
