Download new software

[OOPS!]

Hi All!!

Time to add to my learning curve again!

Yesterday I tried to download a program called Gnucash,ver.1.4.5-1, at, ftp./gnucash.org/pub/gnucash/redhat-6x/1,4,x/RPMS/, for practice and to use as a personal finance manager. Instead of getting a RPM, I got a page of code.

I tried to copy and paste to gnupad but was unable to, figuring that I could save it to a file and then try to install or run it from there.

There is something here that I definatly don't understand. And I'm sure that it's pretty obvious too. Been going through my book, Teach Yourself Linux, but haven't found anything that covers this.

I'm running RedHat 6.2, Gnome Desktop, Standard install.

Good to hear that you are sticking with Linux too.

Well, basically what you are doing is simply clicking on the link on the FTP site and expecting a save as dialog box, whereas your browser isnt set to leave RPM files alone and not try to display them .. of course easily remedied by: <B>Right Click on RPM file .. SAVE AS... Save to a directory</B> and then do your RPM magic to it.

PS: Please do verify the links you post, its a bit of a pain to troubleshoot when you have to start navigating from the root directory. Link is at: ftp://ftp.gnucash.org/pub/gnucash/redhat-6.x/1.4.x/RPMS/

Oh geez!! I read that and re-read that, and still didn't get it!! (hear sound of head banging on desktop).

Sometimes the light, she don't burn too bright. Seems it's always the simple stuff that gets me. After all those years of Windoze, the thought process gets a little slow.

So far, Linux is working well for me. And I love the feeling learning it, the sucesses and the failures. I really appreaciate everyones tolerence for my ignorance of using Linux.

Yeap, there's very little difference between Netscape across platforms, except for Netscape being alot more stable under Linux than it is under 95/98. If it works in one, it'll generally work in the other.

All functions are the same pretty much, and so are the bugs ;).
