Using Verisign

I'm currently in the process of setting up a site. The basics of the site are simple, but I want to incorporate SSL for the ordering. I've been checking out Verisign. I'm just unsure as to how it's used. If anyone has any experience with this or knows more about it I'd appreciate any info. Thanks

If you want a good verisign approved shopping cart I recommend Americart (http://www.cartserver.com/americart/) . You can try it out before you buy. You do not get any software when you do buy, it all stays on their servers. Works rather well I think for $249 a year. I used it on this (http://www.theflowerweb.com) .

Setting up an SSL is generally quite easy. It just depends upon your host sometimes, though. Some offer a server wide SSL that you can use for free. Most would offer the option of having your own SSL. Back in the days that I didn't know better, I purchased a Thwate SSL for about $100. Now Verisign owns Thawte so that option is no longer available. Others like Equifax, InstantSSL & QuickSSL offer lower cost, less compatible SSL's for as low as $49.

So I would first check with your host to see if they offer a server wide SSL, then consider one of the less expensive options.

Well, I use QuickBooks Pro for my accounting right now. I checked out some software called StoreFront AE. This can be used alongside QuickBooks Pro and will automatically enter the orders in my software. I signed up for QuickBooks Web Site Solutions, but I think I might cancel that since it doesn't seem like I can upload my own code. It seems like I can only use their little web site wizard. Which I don't want to do. It's too limited. So I was hoping to just find a web host that is StoreFront Certified and then just use that in conjunction with my QuickBooks Pro. I signed up originally with QuickBooks Web Site Solutions because it said their powered by VeriSign so I knew it was secure.
Thanks for your help. If you have any suggestions as a good way for me to go about this that'd be appreciated.
