Help! Inherited system

Just inherited system. It's an AcerPro - don't know model, but must be a way to find out internally by clicking somewhere. It runs on Windows 95, but does not have the usual array of MS programs (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.) Biggest problem right now is that the arrow cursor is staggering around the window and when I use mouse to try and control it, it seems to have a mind of its own. Once in a while I get lucky and can click where I want. However, when I double-click on some desktop folders, the little hour glass shows, but the folder doesn't open. Anyone have any ideas. Corrupt Windows 95? Bad hard drive? etc. Thanks from grateful Kenny. By the way, my new email is depend99@gate.net. Thanks.

Not a lot of answers because information is too vague. There are no numbers on the case anywhere? can you right click on My Computer, left click on Properties, what is listed? Word and Excel are not "normal" MS programs, unless of course you have purchase and installed them, they are not "standard issue".

The first thing you want to do is check for viruses.
Then more than likely you have a damaged boot record boot to an A: prompt with a boot disk and type fdisk/mbr then hit enter.
this may get you running again.
