Instead of having to download seperate software to prevent pop-ups, wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft took the extra initiative to control this in the internet options of IE? In addition, it would be nice if it let you list specific sites (or domains or servers) that you spefically want to prevent popups for.
Microsoft Outlook has a similar feature with email from sites you don't want (the equivalent of unwanted popups), so why shouldn't IE have the same functionality with websites?
Just a thought. . .

You mean like the Mozilla browser does? :) :)

I have to agree Craig.... getting really tempted to convert to Mozilla.

Do it. Been using it for about a month now... Haven't touched IE in ages...

Just downloaded Mozilla. Nary a popup to be seen after tweaking a few things. Nice!

Been using Mozilla, too, for nearly a month. Learned about the no pop-up feature here (where else?). Have no plans on turning back to IE, Netscape, or even Opera (which is my second choice).

Nope. Just download and install it. To set it as your default browser, go to Edit<Preferences<Advanced<System. Check off HTML Documents, http, and https.

Well I just downloaded and installed Mozilla. However, I see no feature for pop-up prevention. I looked in any possible preference window I could find.
How does this feature work?

I hope the program you downloaded was not Pop-Up Stopper from panic ware as it is full of spyware.

No, I said Mozilla. However, I just found the setting I was looking for in the advanced/scripts&windows tab.

Nevermind. . .:D

Anyway, in addition to the popup blocking feature, I am generally impressed. The cookie manager is also impressive.

I am slowly discovering some nuances with it though. Scripting in some pages works, while in other pages it doesn't. It's very noticeable in forums that rely on alot of scripting. Not sure if it's a VB thing or Javascript thing, but I have all scripting options enabled in my preferences.
Every time I visit a page in Mozilla, I start thinking "I wonder what is not displaying correctly that would display in IE."

All this trial and error work just to avoid popups. Sheesh!

Really?! Been using it for a bit and also AdAware. Unless AdAware removed the spyware on it's first pass, I wasn't even aware what PopUpStopper had added. Should I remove PopUpStopper?

Hi newme,

Go to Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Scripts&Windows. Uncheck 'Open unrequested windows'. No more popups. :)

Another thing...I downloaded some little programs from zdnet a couple of days ago, and with just playing around to see what they were, I installed them. Well, these were utility and security programs, and I have porno all over my computer now. One installed itself without asking. There was an icon in the system tray that would not exit. I had to go to run msconfig and take it out. I uninstalled this dirty program from my add/remove programs and still kept finding it in all kinds of other places (even under several different names). They even added a link to my favorites. Isn't this illegal?
