Hey with this old computer I've been upgrading (the only original parts left is the CD and Floppy) I can't get the floppy to work. I didn't think I'd need it but turn out I need to run an emergency boot disk for W2KP after installing Windows Media Player.
My floppy is connected but it is constantly showing busy on the LED. In the BIOS a floppy is installed as 3.5" 1.44 MB which is correc tand I've tried the IDE Cables in all diferent directions but still nothing. WHen I go to run the Eregency disk it can't read it. Actually when windows was on it couldn't read it either.

If the floppy is good, the end with the twist should be towards the drive itself.

If you have reversed the cables and the light still stays on, then it must be time for a new floppy drive. You can usually get them for under $15 if you look hard enough.

A constant-on LED usually indicates a reversed ribbon cable, but floppy drives do go bad, just pop another one in there.
Maybe you really don't need the floppy as you said. Have you tried to boot from Win 2K CD and using the "repair" function ?

I tried both repair functions. One of them brought me to a command prompt that I didn't know what to do from and the other wants a 3.5" disk. I put the Emergency Repair disk (3.5) onto CD-ROM but it won't read that. Is there a way I can transfer the files from the emergency repair disk on CD to where they need to be from a command prompt?
The twisted end is in the drive so it must be the drive. I didn't think I'd need it so I wasn't too careful with it when it was sitting around. Guess I'll have to get a new one. But hopefully someone knows if the above is possible?
You can repair without the emergency repair disk. Just do an express repair.

Make sure that your data cable has the red striped edge lined up with both pin no.1 on the floppy drive and the motherboard. Usually when the green light stays on it is because your one of your connectors is in backwards.

WHen I clicked express repair it just brought up a command prompt...What am I suppose to do at this prompt?
I'll check that edge and make sure its right

Alright all my flipping of cables and I never had that red line on the right side!!! Odd! Oh well that's working but the Emergency Boot Disk didn't work I guess since it was from this coputer and not that one so now I had to reinstall anyways.
Thanks for all the help
