ok, i have a very wierd problem. i can connect(dialup v.92 modem, Gateway computer) to a local ISP and make phone calls from my friends computer, but i cant connect to AOL. I can connect to AOL with no problem when i bring his computer over to my house and to another friends house. i have tried reinstalling AOL, connecting to a different phone jack in his house, and even reformatting, but i still cant connect. anyone have any ideas?

When I bought my first computer from a mom and pop shop. I could not connect to AOL either. I spent about 2 or 3 weeks on the phone with tech support. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling deleting the aol adapter. Well I had had enough playing phone tag with them. I searched there support pages and ended up finding out my specific model modem was not supported by them. Mind you I had asked them numerous times if the modem could be the problem and they allways replied "No your modem will work fine". Well i replaced the modem and then connected with no problems. I'm not sure how they go about support for there modems now but that may be a cause of your problem. Hope that helps. db

The modem worked just fine a week earlier, but then we did a system recovery. It was at this point that the modem began to malfunction, so we purchased a new one. Obviously, it did not correct the problem.

you don't have your machine set to disable call waiting or some other service that you don't suscribe to, do you? that could keep the modem from connecting properly. or if it's dialing 9 to get out, but you don't need to dial 9, that'll cause problems too.

Can you connect to the local ISP, then open AOL and connect using TCP/IP?

Not being able to connect to aol is not a problem! This would be more of a protection I would say.
