Help! I have been trying to install Red Hat 6.1 on a Gateway with an ATI Rage 3D+ integrated AGP. Red Hat install fails with XSERVER saying it can't access the ATI memory. Any help, suggestions, advice will be appreciated.

Drop to console mode .. run Xconfigurator and setup your X server .. does that help?

Thanks, Ex-Static-Cling. I tried that but no success. Turns out the video is an ATI Rage w/16 MB of RAM and is a separate board not integrated as I thought (red face). System boots to console mode but won't run Gnome or KDE.
Guess I'll keep trying other ideas. Something's gotta work.

Video card support and features improved GREATLY with the 4.0.1 X server IMHO. Even though ATI cards have always been pretty well supported, I'd recommend upgrading. The nice thing is XF86Setup, which actually works pretty well now. If config doesn't work, then you can use setup to test settings before the utility writes the config file. Eliminates all of that trial and error. Also included is xvidtune, which allows you to "clean up" problems with individual resolutions (like HSPACE and VSPACE) manually, and test them as well, all inside the config utility. No more guess work.

Thanks, Xayd. I'll give that a try. I like the idea of trying out the configuration before locking it in.
