i have a problem with a hp 315 digital camera and win98.
bad aspect number 1 i lost the cd driver cd, i'm looking for it but so far i have not found it yet.
bad aspect nuber 2 i formated my hard drive some days ago.
bad aspect number 3 it's no longer under warenty so hp will carge 25euro to use thier helpdesk
good aspecrt number 1 before i formated i made a backup of my c: drive
good aspect number 2: i already know it's recognised under linux as a "generic USB mass storage device" it stand to reason IMHO that windows should be able to do the same.

if annyone either knows where these drivers could be stored on my old HD (i already checked c:/windows/system)
or where i can find drivers for a "generic USB mass storage device" i would greatly appriciate it.

thank you

you do not need anyof that software or drivers,
just pick up a card reader that pluggs into the usb port,

when you take pictures, just remove the memery card from camers, put it into the reader, and all your pictures are transfered to puter as a removeable drive.

this is a much better and faster way to get the pictures from camers to the puter, and no software or drivers needed.

yes but this would cost money, i don't have a great deal of that (i'm still studying) i would lkike to solve the problem without making expences (see comment on HP helpdesk).
i know the device is supoced to show up as a removable HD in the "my computer" window

HP will mail you a new CD for a nominal shipping and handling fee, you just have to call your local sales office. This should cost you less than 25 euros.

You will need to borrow his CD - trying to install drivers copied off another PC will likely be an exercise in futility.

i think that knowing the guy he probably lost his cd. but i could always ask. if not i could try the drivers if they don't work nothing's lost (i think) if they do........
are win me and win 98 drivers compatible?
and does annyone know where to get drivers for a generic data storage device (USB)?

That is exactly why you need the CD.

It's for these very reasons that I am a nut for storing and labeling any software CD's that come with my equipment. I will never get over my frustration with my son on how careless he is about CD's and floppies. I even put a note into CD cases when I download updated drivers and where I got it from. My wife keeps saying something about me being anal retentive....but I don't know what that means!
