I searched Google for it and here is one of the first sites I came upon nokia 8890 (http://www.mindlogic.com/GSM_NOKI_8890_DTL.shtml?source=google_adlink_8890) I am sure there are several more.
Sorry, I cant help on the SMS, don't know anything about it, but I am sure someone here will be along shortly.
I believe in order to use SMS, you have to subscribe to it through your cellular provider.

If you're adventurous, the LCD screens are really easy to replace and cheap too. I bust the one on my first cell phone and the place where I bought it wanted to charge me over $100 to fix it. I asked how much for just the LCD screen..... $2.95 plus tax. I had to spend $9.00 on a very tiny torx screwdriver which oddly enough, I find I use quite often. Once the phone was pulled apart, there was a metal retaining frame with 4 bent over tabs holding it to the circuit board. Straightend them out, popped the frame off, pulled the old LCD, peeled the little silicone strips off the edges of the screen and applied them to the new one. Set it in place, put the frame back, bent the tabs, re-assembled the phone...Voila! Good as new for 1/10th the cost.
Guess my sig kinda suits me :D

Any particular reason for wanting the 8890? There are many phones that are far cheaper that you can use with SMS.

#1 I really like the styling of it
#2 It weighs about 4 oz, and is the size of a credit card, which is SMALL!!!
#3 Im sick of my POS nokia 5190, clunky & bulky and it doesnt even ring anymore, which is NOT a good thing
#4 a friend of mine offered it for $50 and then i can buy the replacement LCD for like $2-20 bucks depending on loc.
any other ?'s :D:rolleyes: :D

couple questions..............
Is there a resource you used to find out how to do that?
Where did you order your replacement LCD from?
What model phone did you fix, was it this model, the 8890?
thanks -matt

I don't know if there are any resources readily available, I just ripped mine apart and went for it.
I got my replacement LCD directly from the place I bought the phone from. They do sales and service of thier phones and had one in stock. If you find a place that sells and services, they should either have the screen, or be able to get it for you.

No, I think that's it! :D
$50 for a repairable one sounds like a good deal. Based on the prices I saw for those, spending a few hundred dollars seemed to be a bit much.
BTW, I have a 5190, and it works well enough for me. But then again, I hate cell phones and I almost never use it anyway...wouldn't have it if I had to pay for it.

Tell your buddy to hang onto it for a bit, call and find out how much the screen is. If it's a reasonable price, I say go for it.
