The 'unable to format partition' sign came up when I tried to install windows XP. What could be the problem, and how could I possibly fix it. Any help would be great!!!

How did you start the install?

I set up the cd-rom as the first to boot data from and the installation began when I exited.

NTFS or FAT32 and what size is the partition? I believe that FAT32 only supports 32GBs partition sizes with XP.

Fats32 of a partition of 30gb

You might try reducing the partition size a few GBs or go with NTFS.
