Ok I am getting a new video card, ATI RADEON (128mb), to replace my RADEON VE (64mb). I wanted to know how much my system will affect (hinder) the preformence.
I have a AMD XP 1600+ (1.4gig)
ECS K7S5a mobo
(onboard Lan option used)
So will my value mobo kill my new card's preformence?
Thx
Jon
Hi Wickes, welcome to PCMech!
If your mobo supports AGP 4X, I don't think so, your fast cpu and the new graphics card will perform well.
Congrats and enjoy!

I would pitch the ecs mobo and get a A7N266C(ASUS) and use a gf3 or better class card. The 128 meg ATI should fly. Use the onboard sound to get awesome sound with less cpu usage at the same time. One must use 2 sticks of ddr (256 megs total is fine) memory to activate the 128 bit mem bus of the nvidia chipset mobos. The A7N266C is a nvid chipset mobo.

I was going to say, make sure you got more than 128mb of system RAM, there is no point in having 128mb of dedicated video ram and less system RAM, pointless.

From your viewpoint the system will fly, from someone with a high end mobo it would be less than optimal. So what you do is play with it till it seems like it is slow ( a unique thing about fast computers is that after a while you start feeling they are getting slow) then for the next upgrade buy a new motherboard.

If it plays your games and runs your applications without incident, then don't worry about it.
However, at your next upgrade, treat yourself and your PC to a high-quality Asus, Soyo, Epox, Abit, or Soltek.

My rec was from the ecs history of failure/glitches. Many have experienced these. Kinda like via...
The A7N266C is pretty cheap in certain places right now. And yes, if it plays the games and runs the apps, why bother it.
