i bought a creative audigy player card yesterday
i have an amd duron 800 .its an ECS Elite Mainboard with on board via ac 79 audio controller, has a Geforce 2 mx400, a old pctv card, 10-100 network card. the front of the booklet of the mainboard says '5MVP3'
i disconnected my onboard audio in bios(integrated peripherals)
and changed 'onchip sound' in advanced chipset features from auto to disable. then installed new card(in the bottom pci slot). all goes fine in windows (winamp, wmp7.1, realplayer, etc) but with a lot of my games esp mohaa, sof2 and warcraft 3 make my pc completely hang during intro movies, or ingame movies. my tv tuner works ok too.
does anyone have this problem too, or know what it is?
i just downloaded a driver upgrade from creative, i ll put it on disc
(the pc doesnt have internet) and install it, but in the readme, there wasnt any info about gaming problems

Using creative and via together, then adding amd to the mix, is asking for trouble in many instances. If it does not turn out to your liking with the driver upgrade, is a reinstall of windows out of the question? That way the card is installed and all the onboard stuff is not in the registry and such.

Have you looked in the games' sites for info about this. I remember I had to patch Diablo 2 coz it didn't work with my SB Live! After the patch everything ran fine.

well that card has given me nothing but trouble, i did everything you advised me, double checked with the creative phone hepdesk
in belgium, then i disabled all audio related items in my bios
(integrated peripherals and 'onchip sound' in adv. chipset settings) formatted, reinstalled windows, and all the hardware,
when i came to the sound card it started normal, the driver installation stopped at 97 percent, i ctrl-alt-del shutted down the installation, everyhthing seemed normally installed (in control panel,) but when i start a game or media player or so, after a
minute or so the sound stops and i hear a constant puuuuuuuut tone . called the shop again, then the helpdesk, no help at all.
i found the win98 upgrade, did, it, also hangs at the end, and sound problems remain. i have had enough. i took that crap back to the store and they gave my money back. im never of my life
buying creative anymore. this thing has cost me all my personal data except a few text docs i could save on diskette.
thanks for the help you have provided me, i havent gotten any help from creative nor the store.

Sorry to hear your prob wasn't solved.
Well, don't know if you can get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I've heard good things about them. Don't know if they are good for gaming though, perhaps DrZaius can tell you more, I think he has one.

i never heard of it before so im afraid not. most pc stores in my area (belgium) stick to certain brands (creative, hauppage,...)
its pretty hard to find others. I dont have a credit card since im just a student so i am unable to buy online.
i restored my old system as much as possible and i think im gonna stick to my onboard sound. hey it may be lousy quality but at least it works.
