well i was creating a new partion in windows 2000 using partition magic 7, which shut down to dos and did it's stuff but when it got to 34 percent it reported 'error - must restart' system' so i restarted the system which now fails to register a operating system and seems to have bugger the hard drive, so i plugged an old 400mb hard drive in and loaded win98 on it, and using partition magic 6, cos i've lost my partition magic 7 cd, i manged to get the computer to register the hard drive, but it simply registers as 'BAD' and wont let me format the drive or do anythign witrh it. what do i have to do to fix the problems?
Download the zero fill utility from the hard drive manufacturer and totally wipe the drive.
If you haven't done anything with the drive, You can call Power Quest and they will talk you through the recovery process if your drive hasn't failed. You will need your license key though. PM is a great program but you need to be careful using it with drive overlay programs and it sounds like that may be what has happened.
If you don't want to invest some time and you don't have any unbacked up data that's important to you glc's suggestion is definitely the quickest easiest sloution to your problem.
While I use PM and use it regularly I don't recomend it to casual users. I don't use it on drives that I didn't set up. And I don't use different versions of it on the same drive.
Best of Luck with your dilemma. Let us know how it turns out.
