I am rebuilding an old computer. The operating system is Windows 3.1 and DOS 6.2. (Recently upgraded from Win 3.0 !!!)

When I initally turn the computer on, it takes me to a DOS screen that says:
"Welcome to Bill's Computer"

On this screen there are six options to initiate DOS based programs, such as: Wordstar, Games, etc.

The last option is a DOS prompt (C:\).

In order to get to the Windows (3.1) screen, I must type WIN at the DOS (C) prompt !!!

Is there any way I can modify a file (or two), under Windows 3.1, or DOS, to go directly into Windows 3.1 at start up, instead of entering the "Welcome to Bill's Computer" screen ????

That is, can I modify my CONFIG.SYS, or AUTOEXEC.BAT files ??????

Please help. I know this is old technology, but I am repairing this computer as a learning experience.

Thank you.

Hi,

load the autoexec.bat into the editor (type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT) and there after the last command add WIN

That's it :)

the program you discribe is called direct acess, it is a start-up minue program you to start whart ever program that is installed on your hard drive. on that system it is a very good program, I recommend you keep it and learn how to use it
