W98SE not seeing second hard drive

I've intalled my old W98 30gb Maxtor hard drive on my new computer, which is running W98SE with a 60gb Maxtor hard drive.

When the 60gb HD running W98Se is the master, the 30gb HD is not recognized, but when the 30gb HD running W98 is the master, the 60gb HD *is* recognized.

Is there anyway to get the 60gb HD running W98SE to recognize this 30gb HD? Jumpers are set correctly, and the correct slave/master relationship is noted in bios, also, the two drive are seen by the Device Manger, but no drive letter for the 30gb HD under W98SE
