I've been posting a few threads and replying for the pass few days and I noticed that it stayed at 78 which it should be around 90. Kinda strange.

Posts made in General Discussion don't increase your post count, there was a thread on this matter recently.

Ohh, I wasn't paying attention to that. Heh. That's a good thing because lots of people just go to the general discussion to gain posts.

As Sarge would have said:

"That's a good thing because lots of people just go to the general discussion to gain posts."

I might step on some feet here, but can I ask why that is? Why? Why? Why? I really want to know why people only wish to hit 1000. Is it the pretty little picture next to your name? I must admit I find a majority of the avatars annoying or at least distracting. Is it the deviously witty personal title? Is it thought that people will think you a better troubleshooter given that you have 1000 posts?

This is not meant as a rant. . . Well partially, yes. . . but, I really do want to know why. I am always fascinated by personal psychology. I have always wanted to ask this and now I can finally do this without being called a hypocrite, since posts in the General forum are not counted. :) Besides, I have been here for a pretty long stretch, so if I ever reach 1000, it will be with the lowest post per day average the forum has ever seen.

Respectfully,

Demosthenes

Let me add a little clarity to your life: appreciation- one of the deepest human needs is appreciation.
That's why it is a good thing to make the goal 1000 for an avatar. When one hits that and gains that hallmark of recognition it just plain feels good.
N'est pas? :)

I completely agree, TimPoet: we all need appreciation on a daily basis.

And I found out that people appreciate you when you help them with their probs, it's because of it that I think canceling post count in the GDF was a smart move.

And I think that hitting 1K had become a goal for lots of people here. It was for me. Now my next goal is catching up glc (yeah, right, like I'll ever do it  :D)

Don't forget, he can manually change the post count. Not that I'm saying anyone would ever "cheat"...... I'll leave it at that

That's a kind of bias question. It's actually going towards teenagers. I dunno. I think they like the number and want to be on top of everybody else. Maybe they want to be noticed or be appreciated and well known around here.

As for mods, they're just doing what they do best. :D

i don't even remember what my count is but whatever it is it's because i'm so ignorant i have to ask a lot of questions, not that i'm so smart. and i might add i get a lot of good information.
