My friend emailed me with this problem. Any one have any ideas?

Here's my problem: I'm trying to set up my Yamaha crw4416sxz cd-rewritable drive, firmware upgraded to 1.0j

The drive is recognized by Adaptec on bootup at ID #3, this is correct.

I have 2x2GB SCSI HDD's (C & D) and 1x40GB IDE HDD partitioned as 4x10GB (E,F,G,H), DVD-ROM (I) and CDRW (J)
Installed Easy CD Creator ver 5.1 (upgraded to 5.1j).

When I try to format a cdrw disk using DirectCD it tells me the "drive is not ready". All other keys are grayed out (ie Scandisc etc.) I'm trying to find out what the conflict is and the only program I can't account for (in add/remove programs) is WebCD from Market Space.
Could this be the cause of the conflict? Can I remove it without creating more problems? Meanwhile, I'm trying to trace it back and find out which program installed it in the first place. From what I can muster from the Market Space site is that it's not compatible with Win95 and should be upgraded to use with Win98. If I really don't need it...I want to get rid of it.
I using IE5.5 SP2 if that's helpful.

You have 2 SCSI drives a 40GB hdd, DVD-ROM, and cdrw drive on this system and it's running win95? I wouldnt think it's a resource conflict, software conflicts are of coarse always possible. DirectCD doesnt work with winXP either, if you upgraded to 98 your correct that it would then maybe work, even if it doesnt putting 98 on that system would make it alot better anyway.
