I have Win98 running and wanted to try WinME on a clean install. I have the upgrade pack. I pulled the HD and setup a new one but the upgrade won't go unless I install 98. If it works I'm going to abandon 98.
Is there anyway to do a clean install?

I installed WinME on my machine last weekend. I thought that I saw an appendix in teh book outlining how to do a clean install. I think it said that all was required was that you needed to put the win98 CD in the drive when requested then continue. Hope this helps.

During the installation, Me will ask for proof that you own a valid copy of 98. Just put the 98 disk in the drive and point the install proggy to D:/Win98, assuming your Cd-ROM drive is D. Easily done!

I formatted my one year old Dell the other day and did a clean install from my Promotional Stepup of WinMe. During install it will ask for you to insert your full version of Win98. Thats it!! I had one problem only. It did not like my Iomega CDRW. I disconnected it and ran setup from my CDrom. Then connected my CDRW after setup was done. No problems at all. WinMe detected both my onboard video and onboard audio with no problems. Didn't need to install any drivers that came with my Dell.
