Hi there,
As part of my job I recondition a lot of computers - many of which come from businesses whose hard drives house a lot of sensitive information. I am aware that when you format a hard drive or even delete a partition with fdisk the data is still physically present on the hard drive, albeit in a format unrecognisable to windows. The problem of course is that with the right software, it would be possible for someone to retrieve the deleted data from the sectors that had not been overwritten with the reinstallation.
What I am looking for and would be grateful for some help with is a general drive zapping utility. I know that individual manufacturers provide such tools, but I want something that will work for all hard drives. One of these 7 pass dealies that are supposedly used by the government for shredding classified data.
I would be grateful for some recommendations,
Matt.
