Hi,

A friend at work asked me about his mouse problem. He says:

The mouse arrow will move with the mouse for a ways, then stop while you keep moving the mouse. Then after a second or so, the arrow jumps across the screen, like it is trying to catch up to where it should have been all along had it kept moving smoothly.

He has tried a new mouse and a new mouse pad, with the same results.

It is a PS2 connector.

Any suggestions to fix the problem?

Thanks,
Dwight

check if the IRQ of the com port (mouse is always mapped to a com port) in use by the mouse isn't shared by video, audio or nic or something like that, this can cause skipping behaviour.

I had this problem with background software and software conflicts. Have they installed anything recently?

I have also had this problem with new software installs. Sometimes running your utilities will take care of it and if not you might try reinstalling the mouse drivers.

Some video cards, especially S3 Virge, will cause mouse problems. The fix is to move the video acceleration down a notch or two.

Maybe the cord is shorting out.
