I've not managed to install ONE piece of CD-R software successfully on WindowsXP yet.

Eventually I got WinOnCD3.8 installed after much head scratching.

Now I'm having problems with CDRWin4.0. It's telling me I've got ASPI problems!

WindowsXP is still new to me and apart from the fact that (1) It crashes all the time - dark blue screen of death? (2) It refuses to boot sometimes, I suppose I kinda love it!
I won't let it beat me, I'll get it running stable on my PC if it's the last thing I do.

Anyone know a fix for ASPI probs with CDRWin4.0?

For WinOnCD 3.8 you'll need the XP patch to get it running under WinXP. You can get it from roxio website.
And about the ASPI problem: Install ASPI drivers (WinXP itself does not come with ASPI).

Think Nero!

Hi RJ,

It's ok, I installed WinOnCD a few weeks ago (after you helped).

It is only CDRWin ASPI probs I have now. I'm off to find some ASPI drivers!

Get this one:
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/EZ-SCSI_5.0&filekey=aspi32.exe

ASPI Layer 4.60 (1021). It works great for me.

Thanks RJ,

I downloaded 4.70 (which it said was for XP) and installed it. All's fine now.

I agree with the "think nero" statement. I can load that on whatever and it runs without patching.

You all don't know WinOnCD :(

You probably mean you can load a *newer* versio of Nero. Well, newest version of WinOnCD, Version 5, is also designed for XP.
BTW, I find WinOnCD better than Nero, so why spending about $30 for a burning program that does nothing more ?

I'm with you RJ, I like WinOnCD too.

I created a VCD with WinOnCD like you said and whilst I got an error, something about a "musar"??? whilst dragging an MPEG file across, it still seemed to work OK. It plays fine in my DVD-ROM using PowerDVD and here's hoping it works with the LG DVD player!

RJ, before I got my new CDRW with the latest version of Nero, I had ver 4 on XP and it ran fine.

Hal, I've got Nero 5.5.?. So you are saying it will work on my XP desktop no probs, no patches?

If so, I might just give it a try.

Yes.

Just make sure you go to Roxio's, Adaptec's or whoever they are this week's site for instructions on how to completely uninstall it before moving on to Nero.

I can't comment on older version of Nero but the newer one works better than anything else I have used. In fact I haven't burned one bad disc with it.

I used EZ CD Creator for years and really liked it but I could never get it too work correctly with XP. I downloaded the patches, bought new drives, bought new versions, even tried the new oem version that came with my notebook. I have six computers running XP Pro and I never got it to work well on any of them. Even after countless hours on the phone with drive makers, Dell, IBM and Roxio.

Now I have two desktops and a notebook with Nero, I am very happy with the way it works. No tweaking needed. I burn two or three data CDs a day.

I had the same problems with ECDC5 and XP. Never could get it to work with my configuration. Nero works great, I especially like the Nero Runner for the Nero Express in the last two versions. XP's drag and drop is really great, and I use Clone CD exclucively for copying. The Easy CD Creator plug in for the Real One Player works fine in XP, and is really convenient for burning my MP3 download albums from Emusic, but it is really slow compared to Nero. All and all there is not one perfect burning program, but lots of them work flawlessly in XP and will cover whatever you want to do. UFOResearcher, I started with Nero 5, and it works fine in XP. It will update to the current newest version 5590 with Nero express. Don't use Nero's drag and drop InCD with XP. Don't even install it. The built in drag and drop in XP is far superrior, and InCD can cause the same type of problems that Direct CD does in XP in some cases. Once you get used to the one built into XP, you'll never want to go back.
