dialup server

In windows 98 i remember there being a component of windows called dialup server. I never got it to work but i never really tried, because i didn't need it. Now I have windows xp pro and i need a program that does the job of dialup server, yet i can't find it in add/remove components or on the cd. Any body know where this is? if not, does anybody know of a third party alternative (freeware)?

What is it that you're trying to accomplish? I haven't seen anything about a dial up server in Windows XP. If you're just trying to access your machine from a remote location, XP has remote desktop.

erm, didn't i say that there was no dialup server in xp? I thought that was my whole problem. hmm.

i need the connection to use remote desktop across. Can it be set to wait for calls or to dial out? You see, the thing is, the host pc is in england, the remote pc in new zealand. This means the whole thing has to be done at night when the host is unattended. Therefore, i need the remote pc to dial the host, and i need the host to answer, a task which, previously, in windows 98, was performed by dialup server.

Now read the original question and hopefully it should make sense.

If you're going to use Remote Desktop, the Host PC must be Win XP Pro. You can set it to accept incoming connection requests. If the Host is not Win XP Pro, you can always use PC Anywhere. It works just the same as Remote Desktop for the most part except it can be installed onto other operating systems.

Anyway, thanks to hackinCowboy for enlightening me. Unfortunately I've had a look in the remote desktop options and i couldn't see an "accept incoming calls" checkbox or anything like that. (I do have WinXp Pro)

PcAnywhere would be perfect, but we have an old version and it trashes XP and then refuses to work. I think they offer to lower the cost of an upgrade to £100, but as you can imagine I'd rather hold on to that if I can.
