A friend of mine was telling me that he is unable to download more than two movies at a time (leave all possibilities of illegal movies out of your head, legal issues are not the issue here).

He has a fast cable connection and is able to have more than two simultaneous downloads of any other file (he didn't give me a link to the particular site or tell me the file type).

I asked him if windows gives him a message or anything; he said "no, it's just when I have two movies downloading at a time, and I try to do a third one while they are still downloading, I notice the "Save" button is greyed out, but I don't have this problem for any other file".

Of course I have never had this problem before (he is using IE6 btw) so I was unable to help him. he uses no ad killers or download managers, just straight IE. I thought it might be a bandwidth limitation at the site, but since the "save" button is grayed out, it seems to stem more from the browser (perhaps?)

Anyone ever encountered a similar problem with multiple downloads? How did you fix it? Did you find out what was causing it?

thanks, I'd like to be able to help him, and I am curious myself as to the answer.

Maybe the site has a simultaneous download limit.

Sites really do that??

If they do, that is probably the reason.

Sure - I was just up at Creative's site the other day to get some drivers and they only let you download one file at a time.

what happens when you try to download more? A little popup saying "you bandwidth thief!" (or similar) or does the start button get greyed out, or what happens?

I am just trying to be a little certain that my friends symptoms are the result of download limits.

thanks glc

it could be the site if its the same and they have a d/l limit. or could it possible that the os doesn't allow more simultaneous d/l i know when d/l that xp pro doesnt allow more that two at the same time. i believe that this is because xp was programmed to manage and conserve as much ram and processing as possible to keep your system more stable and from meltdowns and frezzing.

Creative puts your request into a queue and won't even give you the "save or open" box till the existing download is done.
