Share Your Memory?

My video card is kind of weak...
So one of my friends told me you share some of your memory with your video card. It's an onboard video card.. Is this true and how can it be done?

It depends on the motherboard. Some have the shared RAM at a fixed rate, others will allow you to vary how much you share all the way up to 64Mb. Go through your BIOS and see if there is any setting for increasing the shared RAM for video.

I checked and found nothing about shared memory.:mad:
I saw the version of my bios.. Phoenix Bios
The only thing it said about video,is the video boot type,which is at 1mb,other then 1mb there is also 512k.
I really want to boost this system..
I put the max memory it could take, that is 324 mb of ram.
I could overclock..(500mhz)

Hi Xtc_Vampire,

Does your motherboard have a AGP slot or a spare PCI slot to use? For gaming, you want to use the best video card your motherboard can handle.

Add lots of RAM and use a 7200 RPM hard drive.

Get a PCI GF4 MX card for around $100 - thats about the ONLY thing that you could do, but you still can't turn that machine into a modern gamer. Start saving for a new build - and don't count on reusing the GF4 MX in it - you will want something a lot better than that.

That is correct. The MX series of cards are intended for office use not gaming. They don't even support nVidia's nFiniteX II engine. You will want definetely one from the Ti series.

The problem is - that's the strongest PCI card out there for gaming - the only other viable option is a Radeon 7000 with SDR ram which I believe is inferior to even the GF4 MX420 for gaming. The only high end PCI cards are for graphics professionals, not gamers, and they cost more than a whole new computer would cost you. Without an AGP slot, you ain't gaming with the big boys.

Yup I'm saving for a build, but the only thing is that it will only be next year before I build it... So I want to put my details higher in Warcraft III, so I can atleast enjoy a bit...
I didn't know you could have PCI slot video cards..

Make sure you can disable onboard video on your PC before buying a PCI vid card.

You don't necesarily need to disable the onboard video when you use a vid card, my bro set up his computer to use two monitors, one on the onboard, one a pci card. Win 98, or maybe even 95, or better supports multiple monitors, up to 9.
