I just OC'd my PC for the first time. I changed the FSB to 133 and VCore to 1.65. It is a 1.8A and Asus P4B533 with Kingston PC2100 256. I checked the status with Asus PC Probe and the temps are 39 for CPU and 38 for the MB. The voltage is at 1.744.
My system is running fine. In system information it shows the processor at 2423mhz.
Does this sound alright or do I need to change something? This is my first build and I don't want to mess anything up. Thanks

Well if you don't want to risk it..
Do you need that much power?

38 for the motherboard is a bit high, not critical or scary high, but you might want to clean up cables if necessary and add a fan to blow a bit more air though.
Other than that... you're kickin'!

Yeah, I will admit my wiring job is pretty bad. I tried to bundle them all together. I have the lian li pc82 case but it's in an enclosed "slot" in my desk. I did take the front door off to help out but I figured it would be alright because of the fans. There are two intake fans in the front. Exhaust on top and rear along with the two fans on my Enermax PS. Maybe I'll back it off for a bit and see what it does for my temps.

Hi Newbie,
What are you doing with the computer that you need the extra speed? Although you probably won't hurt anything, there is always the chance of data corruption.
1.8GHz is pretty darn fast already (I'm typing this on a PII 300MHz :p ).

When overclocking a P4 watch how much voltage you start pumping the processor. I have heard that anything over 1.85 volts (as far as I remember) can shorten the live of your processor a fair bit.

I'm not really doing anything to need the extra speed...Since this was my first build and not a "store bought" PC I was truly amazed at the difference in quality of parts you get. I usually by a new PC every 1 1/2 years so I thought this would be a good experience since I would be able to know my system inside and out and be able to upgrade it in the future.
I have backed things off a bit since I really didn't need the extra speed. I am currently running at 2160mhz, Vcore is at 1.584, MB temp is 36 (fan at 3096) CPU temp 37 (fan 3110).
I haven't played any games yet because I haven't bought my video card yet so I guess my computer hasn't been pushed yet. I loaded CS and it looked really bad with the cheapo card in there now. I'm going to leave things as they are for right now.

You should be ok. Once you get your VC, check your temps after gaming for awhile. They shouldn't exceed 60'C. In fact, anything in the 50's would be cause for a cooling solution. BTW, are you using the stock HS/fan with the thermal pad? You can cool it a couple of degrees by using thermal paste.
Counterstrike will run fine @1.8Ghz. No need to OC:D
You might want to be careful - I hear that the Northwoods don't really like increased voltages and can pop on you - not from heat either. I would not go over 1.65, period.

Agree with glc. From what I've read if you go to high on the voltage you are at risk of frying the interconnects in the chip (CPU). HTH
