It has been almost a year now since I built my 1st PC. It has worked flawlessly, even after overclocking, except for one minor and annoying problem. Whenever I dialed out on the modem I could not hear the modem dialing or the yak-yak that followed ( I have a supraexpress 56i sp V90 modem). I tried everything I could think of and followed this forum for hints. Nothing worked.
Today I went to the diamondmm web site and in the FAQ's there was the solution. It was plain and simple. They first suggested that it was necessary to confirm that the modem Speaker-jack be connected to the sound card in-jack (this I have read in several forums and had already checked). Then they suggested that the sound card mixer be checked to ensure that it was not configured to mute the in-line jack. Well, the mixer had settings for both the modem and the in-line jack. Although they were not muted, I set them somewhat higher.
I could not believe it. This simple change solved the problem. I just wanted to pass it along to any others that may have encountered the same dilemma.
Happiness comes in many forms.
