Installing FreeBSD (4) this past week, I came across something weird. Everything seemed to work ok, but when I got to the point of configuring X, it dumped the Enlightenment install. Just got a message that it had failed. I went ahead and put a smaller basic window manager in its place, but wondering if anything could cause this besides a flawed CD? Can choosing multiple window managers during the installer cause problems, i.e. should I pick one and leave the rest out?

XSetup went fine and X started fine, just with nothing but an Xterm and a clock, not the snappiest of desktops ;).

Hmm .. what was/is the error on enlightenment? Do u have a core [xinit.core]? What does your .xsession-error log say?
Would help us get to the bottom of it if you have either of it.
Having multiple window-managers shouldnt have a problem. But it has been documented that Gnome and E dont like each other too much for some reason. [sorry abt being so vague, i dont have all the info myself]

What version of enlightenment are u using?

By the way FreeBSD 4.1 is the way to go, there are a lot of significant security fixes and bug fixes that you would like.

Didn't check any logs but I couldn't find any enlightenment files in the usual places, which makes me think a bad CD more than anything else. Nothing's there.

I'd been using enlightenment with Gnome in Red Hat for awhile, and haven't had any significant difficulty with it. I'll wipe everything out and try the install again tonight, we'll see what happens, may have just been a fluke.
