msi?

i've always heard msi was a good motherboard brand, but i've seen 4 or 5 threads about how they're causing problems. what gives?

yea, i realize everyboard has their share of problems, but these threads here sprung up pretty quickly, and all in a short timespan...

I too have an msi board and i also have set my friend up with and I havn't had any problems with them to speak of. All in all they are good boards.

I think its specific models that are causing the trouble - all the KT133A and i815 MSI boards I have used have been flawless.

MSI is known to be an excellent brand.

This rise in threads could be coincidence too. I was actually considering (pretty heavily) purchasing an MSI board for my next build. That wont be for about a year still, so I will have to see how things turn out by then.

I have a MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU, and it is an excellent board. A lot of people need to realize that some of the problems they are experiencing are able to be fixed with the lates bios updates. I had a K7T Pro2, and it was a little flakey at times.

However, the VIA chipset may be what people are having problems with. I know that my board doesn't run as solid as the Sis or Intel boards that I have built on. Live and learn!

MSI gets a B in my opinion. A needed BIOS fix for the K7N420 was very long in the coming, and their support for the K7N415 is sub-par, on many listings of their products they disavow that board entirely.

Other than that, both boards work quite nicely.

I just threw one across the yard last week(MSI's fly pretty well). However, it was an "old" Pro-266 model (VIA chipset) so draw your own conclusions. Every company has a board that flops, when I experience one I never go back to that company. For now Abit and Asus are the ones for me.

I LOVE my MSI Kt3 Ultra... and my MS GeForce4 video card. Haven't had even a hint of a problem with anything.

even so... i'm going to hold off on recommending msi boards. i think i'll stick to soltek or something for the time being.

I never liked my Soltek, actually, although it was from the Pentium Pro era. Had a lot of interesting "issues", like one of the PCI slots was dead, etc. It worked OK, but trying to find an ENGLISH manual for the thing online was hard as anything, I eventually found some poor quality scans of SOME of the pages.
