I managed to avoid the whole vhs thing, pay-per-view movies, then I got a DVD drive. Just in time for the " formatted to fit your screen" DVD hassle.
I admit, I'm not all that fussy. Widescreen works just great on the 32" Sony but full screen is my preference on a 17" monitor.
I didn't know I was starting a war.
Just how much of this argument is real?
What format do you order and how happy with it are you?
I keep thinking that there may be something in this but real info, instead of virulent opinions, has been hard to come by.

for me... i go for WS for certain movies... like Braveheart or Gladiator... ones that have expansive scenery that i don't want cut off by the FS version... other than that, it doesnt really matter...

You have to remember, most DVD's are going to be viewed on televisions of some sort, not computer monitors.

Anamorphic DVD's (wide screen) are becoming more and more the norm. Pan and Scan (full screen) is more difficult to master because of the additional editing required.

As more and more people buy new and bigger TVs -- many of them HDTV capable sidescreen -- the issues detween anamorphic and pan and scan DVD's will become less and less.

As for me, I've got a 65" Pioneer HDTV widescreen projection TV -- so of course I love anamorphic DVDs.

I'd agree but I'm not getting heard.

Okay, wide screen for the folks with the big screens.
And the monitor brigade will do otherwise.
I'm glad it's not just my opinion ( given the price of home theaters) .
