Keep in mind I have not tweaked or Overclocked, yet. :D
Also I will not get full benifit, because I am using my older PC-100 ram instead of PC-133. Hey I had 256 meg of PC-100 and ram is expensive, plus 5400 RPM maxtor hard drives.
And I haven't updated all of my drivers, yet.
I did a work unit in 4 hrs and 47 minutes. However my time nearly doubles if I am using my LT WIN modem, go figure. Hopefully I will be hooking up an external Modem early next week.
With the Duron 600, tweaked to the limit of it's cheap MB, i was doing work units in about 5.5 hours to 6.5 hours..
So my time seems to about the right an increase of 200 mhz.
You can't totally expect the T-Bird to circle the Duron in all programs, because I was told that the T-Bird and Duron have the Same floating point.
So I expect the a Duron overclocked to 800 mhz would run seti about the same. The T-Bird Will outshine the Duron on Cache heavy Apps, it does have more processing power. Although I have not run any bench marks yet, the T-Bird feels like it has more Kick to it.
Yes, I could have saved about 100 dollars by going with the Duron, but I wanted to make sure I didn't cut myself short on any part of the Processor. Since alot of different apps, such as graphics program, office apps, games, and of course Seti. I want to make sure I could get maxium bang in proformence.
I will be tweaking my system a little, probably just increasing the bus speed for a little more overclocking. I am still getting use to the new bios, so I haven't found everything just yet. Plus, my windows need a good tweaking to free up the processor a little more...Dump the win modem.
So far i don't like the on board promise controller, it looks like I can't have that as my boot device, :(.
Since it doesn't seem to have a bios that I can go into like my promise card to set arrays.
