Hi newme
In safe mode, you are bypassing your normal startup files and only loading a minimal set of drivers. Your autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini, or sys.ini files might be problematic. You may have drivers conflicting or improperly configured.
One of your other threads mentioned file corruption and possible virus infection. Seems like you are attempting to recover from a fairly nasty disaster.
At this point, you have so many things going wrong that I'd suggest a complete reformat/re-install - a clean install, from your original Windows disk (no copy!). And scan the Dickens out of any documents that you're considering putting back into that nice clean box! Otherwise you'll just keep re-infecting it. If you don't have a good anti-virus program yet, most stores have a Norton promotion for nearly nothing with competitive upgrade pricing and the rebate game.
And pay close attention to your Bios Setup: follow closely the instructions in your motherboard's manual. Make sure everything looks OK in there before re-installing.

If you have problems after scanning backups/re-format/re-install, then on your next post, we'll need your system specs to help troubleshoot.

If you don't have that many documents, put them on floppies from Safe Mode. Scan them with another PC that has up-to-date definitions & see if they're infected. It may be that the virus isn't getting caught. You really want those cleaned up, of course.
A lot of documents will fit on a floppy. Sounds like you were able to get most of your music onto CD first: scan those too!
And don't ever, ever use KaZaa. (Ok, if you Have To: perhaps KaZaa lite combined with AdAware sweeps)

[P.S. ....since that's a Pavilion, you also have the option of using your Recovery disks & then updating everything from there)

If you want to, I believe hp will replace your recovery disks: you have to call them to make sure. Some of these machines have proprietary parts that set them apart from home-built systems made from industry-standard parts. Might want to call hp support 1st, and see if the Pavilion's bios will be OK will the upgrades you plan. They won't offer free support after you re-format, of course, but at least they could advise as to any proprietary things in the bios you might need to be aware of.

What model Pavilion is it? The hp website will have all the drivers available for download.
I guess I answered too late: I was advising you to go the recovery disk route in your other thread. Don't worry, I suppose you can still get everything working: it's just going to take a lot of time.

Hi newme,
Here's the link to your HP Pavilion 6545 drivers: they should be all available from this page. I'll post this same link in your other thread, too:

Hi again newme:
Just in case the video drivers aren't quite right yet, here's the link for Intel's 810 drivers download page. Just select your operating system, and download the latest & greatest for that chip.

I can't help with the Outlook import, but remember to be careful with those & scan them first, since they date from the time of your virus infection.
