I hava plexwriter and was going to back up some files (1st
time ever) when I kept gettin a media write protected error
from win. backup. I tried through roxio take2, no backup device
present even though it had selected my plextor as the destination
for the backup. I searched around in systems and the details for win backup says it'll back up to tape, or hard drives.
any way to get around this so I can copy straight to my writer?
THANKS!

Hi Sam

Easiest way is to use the "create a new data CD" option in Roxio. You can drag and drop to create a customized backup. I haven't used Roxio that much lately, but if you hunt around in their manual, they might have some sort of backup program included (or perhaps available for a small fee .. or download)..that would allow you to do the incremental type of backups.

Thanks Gary! I knew I could copy the files to disk, but I was under the impression you had to go through a backup utility
for you to be able to reinstall them properly. So if I just copy to disk--- whats the process to reinstall? Do I just go to "run",
type in the drive letter:/install, or is it a little more to it than that?

To put them back, you'd just copy them to the proper directories, using Windows Explorer.

If these are system files, you'd only need to copy them back in case of a disaster (nasty virus, etc)

If these are music or photo files, they'll actually run just fine being read from your CD copy, you don't necessarily need them on your hard drive at all - if you don't mind having to insert the CD first.
