Still trying to solve my Family Tree problem. I installed FT on the twin machine of the one that it is currently installed on, referenced the data file, and to my surprise, the pictures were able to be viewed. My guess is that I'm missing some dll files in Windows or someplace else that is causing computer 1 to not link to the photos correctly. Can I (should I) reinstall Win98? Can I re-install Win98 and still have all of the other things on the HD intact with the hope of rewriting the right one? The machine in question recently underwent a Norton to Panda antivirus transition.

hi,

with regards to the DLL (dynamic Link Library) files, have you tried to reinstall that file?
You original one could be missing or corrupt. Try finding the file, and replacing it..
It will be on your windows CD, under one of the cab files listed.

Hope that helps...

What orginally started the problem was the inability of Family Tree to establish to the links to photographs of relatives, etc. It gave me an error like "missing dx4rep.dll file" or something like that. Well, I scouted around the Internet because I misplaced my Win98 CD and installed the appropriate file. It then continued to name 3 other files tha tI was missing, and I found those and installed them. FT then opened up fine, but the link to the photos was screwed up. I then installed FT on the twin computer, and the link was fine, which makes me think that I'm missing Win98 dll's. Anyone have suggestions? I'm not getting errors now...

You can reinstall Win98 over the top of it's self with no problems. It will fix errors and not harm other parts of your HD. I've done it more than once to correct problems similar to yours.

I'll try that.
