Hi,
The operating system is Windows 95, File system is I believe FAT16(machine not in front of me).

This may be an obvious question but What would change the file access date other than the plain opening of a file?

In other words would scandisk do it? or Would Antivirus scan do it? How about defrag?

I am thinking that scandisk and antivirus might change the access date on all files on the drive scanned but am not 100% sure.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Also if this is not the case is there a way that makes the access date all one date?

Thank you and have a good day!

what kind of file are you refering ti ?
system files are dated on the day they are created,

files you create will be dated anytime you change them.

no other way to change the date I know of

Actually I meant all (esp Word docs, excel docs). Wierd thing is I can't personally witness this but it was suggested that the access dates changed on the entire hard drive (all files) after a thorough scandisk and virus scan were performed.

I did indeed witness that random files (docs, excel, programs) all had the current date and either that person opened all files on the hard drive in different locations or something changed them all at once.

Have a good day.
