Hope this is the right forum,
On the PCMECH home page it gave info about changing bios
settings, I did and I think my PC is a little more responsive, but...
when trying to surf some of the pages off of the home page I get the Mech logo with a blank screen with the info at bottom saying
done. Refreshed a couple times but no cigar. If I go back then fwd it finally appears. Could this be because I tweaked the
Bios?

what exactly did you tweak in your BIOS?... i doubt any change in BIOS could be causing the situation you are experiencing... but, before ever making any changes in BIOS, always always always write down your current settings, just in case...

you can clear CMOS and go back to your original settings and see if that fixes it though... maybe...

Good luck in any case!

Sam,

I would say it is nothing regarding your BIOS tweak since I always experience that when I hit the MECH homepage. I get the pcmech logo in the left hand corner and then everything else is blank on the page. Even If I refresh, it still will not display the page properly. What I end up doing since I can't hit the forums is just type in www.pcmech.com/forum and then I just skip the homepage. Once I am in the forums and hit the homepage it misterioulsy works fine.

Or you can do what I do: just type forum.pcmech.com and you're set.

Since I have autocomplete activated I only have to type "fo" and IE automatically displays the entire addy.

Thanks for the info. much appreciated.
I changed the
"video bios shadow" to enabled
"sdram cycle length" to 2
"sdram bank interleave" to 2 banks
"cache timing" to fastest
"video bios cachable" to enable
Before I made the changes, I copied the defaults, plus I went
to the Via web site and printed the specific info for my chipsets.
This told me what my mobo would support.
Thanks again Cuffs, Elrod, and Nuclear.
Nuclear, where do I find this autocomplete?

Thanks Cricket!
I have a 3dfx Voodoo 5500 video card I installed a few years back. I just assumed, through some articles I'd read the changes would speed up the monitor in some way.

In IE, click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Options > scroll down until you see the "Use Autocomplete..." option > enable it > OK.

Voilą!
