Get a 98 boot disk, use Fdisk and delete the non-dos partition/s then partition and format the drive and install 98.

Is your Bios set to boot to the floppy drive first?

Forget about the floppy, you don't need it at all.
All you need is to boot from the Windows 98 CD into dos, there you can FDISK the drive and format it.

In BIOS the boot order has to be set to boot from CDROM first. Also often it's required that in standard cmos setup the (first) cdrom is set to AUTO. You probably need to boot from your first optical drive.

That's it :)

Hi,

in FDISK you need to delete both existing partitions and then create a new one that fills the entire drive.
When you're finished and want to format the drive you need to change to the WIN98 subfolder to use the FORMAT command.

I am making some progress here, things are getting better but when I try to delete both partitions the second partition gives a message (cannot delete extended dos partition wile logical drives exisit)I have tryed every combination to delete it but with no luck the drive is 40k but is showing 20 in the fdisk setup every thing is fine if I just wanted 20k

Hi Webbie48,

Try using Delpart (http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm) to remove the partitions.
