I currently have Windows 98 and all of my stuff on one 30GB harddrive.

I want to install windows on another harddrive and make is just for windows (just to make life easier).

I would want to be booting from it, but I would also want it to be drive "D:\" instead of "C:\"

Is this possible?

When I install windows on the second ahrddrive should i have the first plugged in?

Possible no. Not the way your describing it. When booting to win98 automatically becomes the c drive by default. Although it is possible to duel boot operating systems but simply not the way you described it. You should read this article.

What if i put XP on the drive in question and keep 98 on my drive, which will it call C:\?

Your better off getting partition magic then you could set both OS one one drive plus have the option of booting from either OS.

What I really want to do is delete 98 and installXP in its place, but it will format the drive, and even if I make the partition all of my current stuf wil lbecome D:\ which is confusing for some programs (including windows) will the registry have problems? Also, could i have my current drive, then put xp on a partition and have it "mount" the 98 partition for the purposes of getting files or running programs?

You could upgrade your 98 install with the XP CD.That will replace 98 with XP. Everything should work that way. I don't like upgrades and wouldn't do it that way. Even if you put XP on another drive or partition you won't be able to run your programs that are installed under 98. You'll have to install them while running XP. The best way is to save the files you want to keep. Then install XP and your programs. You'll make better use of your disk space and end up with a more reliable computer.

I think Ill wait Until i get my new hard drive, then I'll Install XP on it, and copy files from the old harddrive
