Finally getting adsl this week!

I've bought an adsl modem but what I want to know is it ok to leave my existing dial up modem in my PC? Just in case the adsl goes down the river or I need to cancel wouldnt mind having my trusty old modem there for a while and have a spare pci slot.

Would this cause any conflicts or problems?

Thanks for any advice :)

You are fine to leave your analog modem in place!

You should be ok. How many other cards do you have in use? Is yor DSL modem external? If you have IRQ conflicts you could just remove your modem, but keep the driver installed in case you'd ever want to use it again.

You should have no problem keeping the dialup modem in there - remember that a DSL "modem" is not really a modem, it's a network device. I hope your DSL modem is an external Ethernet model........

Whoops - just noticed that you are in the UK - in that case, I hope it's USB and not an internal card. I don't know why, but it seems to me that UK DSL providers are avoiding Ethernet like the plague.

I have noticed that everyone from the UK that posts here has an Internal or USB DSL modem. I know where I live some providers aren't offering ethernet anymore.

belive me once you get used to your dsl, you won't wanna use 56k anymore, its ok to leave it in the comp tho, u can even dial it up while dsl is active and make a connection heh, and have 2 in conns active, tho most everything will default to your dsl modem as long as your dsl modem also dosn't behave like a dial up, and behaves more like a lan. I've had 2 dsl modems so far, A dial like type one, THAT i wish i had back, as it lacked a firewall and i could actualy host online games. And this current one that acts like a LAN, and is cursed with a firewall that i can't disable no matter what i try, and what tips the pot is, YOU can reset the modem if you give it like the wrong sub mask, and the modem jus hardlocks and dies and needs sent back to the factory and reset there, so technicly its my 3rd dsl modem cause i killed the First Netdsl 1000 modem i had killed by settin it wrong. Bah if i could get a diff DSL modem i would, hopfuly my ISP will swap modems again back to somthing that has a firewall thats decent.
