Hi,

i went to the MS Windows Update website today, and where I previously got the recommendation to ugrade from IE 5.5 to IE 6, the item has moved from recommended to 'critical' updates, and seems to include SP1 for IE 6.

Does anyone know any more about this?

I read the notes, but they are not the most accessible, and certainly don't give you a balanced view on whether to risk the upgrade.

My policy is normally to avoid 'point zero' of any software, let others iron out the bugs, and go for the 'point one' version when it appears. Therefore, I am not averse to upgrading, but changes of this sort to the fundamentals of Win98 (FE) make me a little nervous!

Thanks for any comments you might have.

David.

My guess is that there are so many security patches included in that download, that Microsoft has figured that it'd be easier for users to hit all the patches at once.

I like IE6, don't know anything awful about it, so long as the security patches are applied (they already are in the download you mention).

IE 6 seems to be a more polished product than IE 5.5. It runs faster and more reliably for me.
